Pep revealed how stunned he was with the display of OL midfielders

Pep Guardiola revealed how stunned he was by Lyon midfield duo Houssem Aouar and Tanguy Ndombele during Manchester City’s 2-2 draw in France.

The French side held the Citizens in their Champions League group match but it was enough for Guardiola’s men as they qualified for the last-16 of the competition.

City were outplayed for large spells and could conceivably have been 3-0 down at half-time as Memphis Depay and Maxwel Cornet fluffed great chances and the latter also hit the woodwork.

The impressive Cornet, the Ivory Coast forward who also struck in Manchester, went on to score twice in the second half but each time City responded quickly, first through Laporte and then Sergio Aguero.

Houssem Aouar, who has been linked with Liverpool recently, and Ndombele ran the midfield for Lyon on Tuesday night and
Guardiola hailed their performances in particular.

“Houssem Aouar is a very good player, he is incredible,” Guardiola told reporters.

“We talk a lot about Ndombele, but Aouar is also excellent. He’s always very calm with the ball at his feet, with an excellent technical quality.

“Lyon really has a very good team. There are young people full of quality and I think the team is in place tactically, I think we can congratulate them, we have had absences tonight, but we have to congratulate them!”

City got their campaign up and running by responding to the Lyon loss with victory at Hoffenheim and back-to-back successes over Shakhtar Donetsk. They will now look to go through as Group F winners by taking at least a point from their final fixture against Hoffenheim.
