Manchester City returns to Napoli for midfield solutions

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester City are interested in signing Napoli midfielder, Allan.

Allan has been impressive for Napoli since his £10 million switch from Udinese in 2015. Allan is a box to box midfielder known for his leadership qualities and ability to build up play from the midfield, with his intricate passing techniques.

The 27-year-old midfielder has featured in 148 games in all competitions for the Serie A side, finding the back of the net eight times and assisting a total of 19.

This season, Allan has appeared to be an integral member of Carlo Ancelotti managed side, as he has played in all 16 games for Napoli this season and has two assists in his name.

City's quest for quality reinforcements in the midfield has been heightened due to Ilkay Gundogan's reoccurring injuries and Fernandinho occasional loss of steam but it still unlikely the Cityzens will press for a January switch for Allan after failing to finalize a summer deal with Napoli's rigid President Aurelis De Laurentis.

City were denied their primary target due to a late Frello Jorginho decision to link up with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sari at Chelsea after several months of negotiations between both clubs.

The Cityzens are two points clear at the top of the Premier League table above their closest title contenders; Liverpool after 12 games and are on course to win back to back division honours, if the can get sufficient covers in areas of insufficiency.
