David Silva honoured after remarkable International career
Manchester City great David Silva was honoured with a special presentation of a commemorative Spain shirt with the number 125 on – to signify his appearances, prior to Sunday's friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina as his country recognised his services following his international retirement.
The 32-year-old also performed a ceremonial kick-off to help get the game underway after been appreciated for his immense contributions to the La-Roja football history
The Spaniard playmaker retired from international duty earlier this year following a brilliant career in which he lifted a World Cup and two European Championships.
Spain boss Luis Enrique hailed the attacking midfielder prior to his big send-off.
'I understand David Silva's reasons for his retirement,' Enrique said at a pre-match press conference. 'I'm focused on the present and now I'm only thinking about my team,'
'As a player he's unique. He's an emblem of the national team for what he's achieved. You never heard a bad word about him. I'm glad we can give him a send-off.'
City teammate John Stones revealed his admiration for the veteran midfield in an interview with Premier League fans mail.
“Some of the stuff he does, how he moves with the ball and the appreciation when he takes its first touch, he’s just a silky player."
“If you could watch him in training as well and how he is and his whole demeaner and how he is as a person, you would definitely like him."
Famously known as El-Mago, Silva made his debut against Romania in 2006 and went on to score 35 goals in his 12-year international career.
