Director of Football expects more from the Cityzens in the UCL

Manchester City's Director of Football Txiki Begiristain has said the club want to progress further in the Champions League after last season's exit to Liverpool.

Begiristain (54) was appointed as Manchester City’s director on October 2012, after prestigious directorate spells at Sevilla and Barcelona.

The former Spain International came with ambitions of creating “a wider football club and build a formidable team" this, he can confidently say has been achieved in his last 6 years after in charge of the Manchester based club.

Spaniard was the brain behind the negotiations and acquisition of big stars like Raheem Sterling, Kevin De bruyne and current club record signing Riyad Mahrez.

As well as guiding Manchester City, to lift two Premier Leauge titles, two Community Shield trophies and two EFL Cup honors since taking charge in 2012, however, he suggests Manchester City are still in search for more accolades.

"We have two good players in almost every position, so we are ready to go for everything.

"The idea was to create competition in every position.  Aymeric Laporte came in January, Benjamin Mendy is fit again and we bought Riyad Mahrez. We feel we have a very, very good squad."

"We want to be even closer. We played the quarter-finals, we had the perception we could have been even better so we will try to do that this season.

"The Champions League is very important every season. We want to be stronger in Europe and we want to have the opportunity to fight for this Champions League.

Manchester City for the first time in the club's history were place in Pot 1; reserved for the top seeds in the draws of European's biggest soccer fiesta, as a result of their English Premier League Champions status, which meant the avoided some big names such as Reigning Champs; Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus and Paris St Germain.

Manchester City were seeded in Group F and will play Shaktar Donetsk, Olympique Lyonnais and Hoffenheim in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
